MEANING CARD
One does not sit on a chesterfield — one settles into it. In a hundred and forty years the oxblood saffian has darkened to the colour of aged wine: the leather has not worn out, it has matured. A sofa like this gathered the study's conversations around it; the fine cracks along the edges are a map of the elbows that leaned there.
